Have you ever really wanted to do something but no one will go with you? Maybe theres a movie you want to see or a festival you got tickets for but everyone is busy or someone gets sick las minute and cant go. disapointing right?
Well for me it felt like this happened a lot, so i decided to just go do it alone.
The reasoning for me was that if i didn't do it alone, i'd be missing out on everything just waiting for someone to come with me, and i didnt want to let life or opportunities pass me by while i sat and waited.
Was it scary? definitely. but was it worth it? one hundred times over.
My first "big" solo hike was in the blue mountains.
There was a spot i had seen on instagram and i knew i wanted to see it in person, It was a natural infinity pool atop a waterfall that overlooked a cliffside and valley. At that stage no one was sharing the location of this spot and it was this beautiful hidden secret,
I knew i had to find it. So with a lot of research, asking a few people if they knew where it was ( which didnt really result in much help) i found a rough guide to the spot and so planned my solo weekend away from home.
It was actually quite nice taking myself on a little holiday, i got to do exactly what i wanted the entire time, i did the touristy thing the first day when i arrived and enjoyed a small bush walk and waterfall view in the rain.
I booked a nice little room above a pub, had a tasty solo dining experience and then read the night away in my room. The following morning i ventured to what i had deduced to be the starting point for my infinity pool hike.
The views along the way were magnificent and i stopped multiple times to take photos, I did get a little nervous when i reached a part of the trail where i hadn't seen anyone in a while and i knew no one could see me in the gully i was in. that was oone of two times id thought it wuld be nice to have someone with me.
Pushing past these thoughts i kept trecking and eventually made my way to my destination. The excitement i felt at finding this place was visible and the best part was that i didnt have to control any of it because no one was around to see my childish little dance or hear the squeal that escapes my mouth when i realised i did this all by myself.
I was estatic, and promised myself that there would be plenty more solo weekends away in the future.
sitting by the pool was the second time i wished it would be nice to have someone with me, not because i was nervous but just to share in the moment and the views bu i quickly realised i could always take someone back if they ever asked.
This trip as a turning point in adventures for me, I discovered a lot about myself.
If there is ever something you want to do or go see, just do it.
Dont miss out on the things you want because of fear and loneliness, so if no one will go with you, go alone and do it for yourself.
